AI model and your own AI key
Choose Whittle's fast or best writing, or bring your own Anthropic, OpenAI or Google Gemini key for unlimited AI fixes on any Whittle plan, billed by your provider.
In short: Whittle's AI is included in your plan and counts against your monthly AI fixes. If you'd rather pay your AI provider directly, add your own Anthropic, OpenAI or Google key in Settings, and AI fixes become unlimited on Free and every paid plan.
Whittle's AI
Whittle's own AI is Claude, set up for store writing. It writes your search listings, descriptions, alt text and FAQs, and each one counts as an AI fix.
- Fast (recommended), on every plan.
- Best writing, on Growth and Scale: richer descriptions and FAQs, a little slower.
Your own key
- In Settings, AI model, choose My own Anthropic key (Claude), My own OpenAI key (ChatGPT) or My own Google key (Gemini).
- Paste your API key. Whittle tries it once before saving, stores it encrypted, and only uses it for your store's fixes.
- Pick a model by its name from your provider, or keep the suggested one, which is fast and inexpensive.
- Save. Settings shows the provider and the last characters of the key in use. Paste a new key any time to replace it.
What changes with your own key
- AI fixes (search listings, descriptions, alt text, FAQs, collection intros and translated listings) are unlimited, billed to you by your provider.
- Plan features stay as they are: product FAQs still need Pro, and collection intros, the blog writer and rewrites still need Growth. Blog drafts and rewrites keep their monthly allowances.
- A paused plan doesn't write new fixes, with or without a key.
