Keywords, topic ideas and competitor gaps
How Whittle's Keywords page finds searches within reach, unanswered questions, topic ideas with volumes, and the searches competitors win that you don't.
In short: The Keywords page shows the searches that find your store, where you rank for each, and the ones within reach. It suggests posts worth writing, and on Scale it finds the searches your competitors win that you don't. It's a tab under Results.
Tracked searches
On paid plans, Whittle checks your Google position for your most valuable searches every week and tells you the week one slips: 25 on Pro, 100 on Growth and 300 on Scale. It starts with your strongest searches from Search Console, and you can add your own.
Keyword opportunities
While it reads your blog and search data, Whittle finds two kinds of opportunity:
- Improve existing posts: searches where a post already shows on page 1 or 2 but not the top 3, with the extra clicks a month if they reached it. Moving up a few spots is the cheapest traffic you can get.
- Posts worth writing: questions people ask that show your store but no post answers, plus collections your blog never mentions. Without Search Console, you see the collections your blog never covers.
On Growth and up, Whittle rewrites the posts closest to the top and drafts new posts for these searches, each checked against your blog so it never competes with a post you already have.
Topic ideas and keyword volumes
On Growth and up, Suggest topics builds post ideas from your catalog and search data: 20 idea runs a month on Growth and 40 on Scale. Monthly search volumes show next to keyword opportunities and topic ideas, for the search market you choose in Settings.
Competitor gaps
On Scale, add up to five competitor stores. Whittle lists the searches they rank for on Google's first two pages that you don't, keeps only the ones about what you sell, splits them into blog topics and shop pages, and refreshes them monthly.
For new owners, Keywords leaves the main menu to keep it short, and stays one click away as a tab on Results.
