AI search: answer checks, crawlers, readiness and llms.txt
How Whittle checks whether ChatGPT and other AI assistants recommend your store, checks AI crawler access and AI shopping readiness, and manages your llms.txt.
In short: The AI search page shows whether ChatGPT and other assistants recommend your store, whether their crawlers can read it, whether each product has what they need, and what to fix so they name you.
AI answer checks
Whittle asks an AI assistant with live web search a question your shoppers ask, then checks whether its answer names your store or a competitor. You see which stores came up instead, and what to fix. Free includes a one-time test of 3 questions; Pro runs 5 checks a week, Growth 15 and Scale 30.
AI crawler access
The bots that ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Bing send to read websites. If your store blocks them, those assistants can't recommend your products. Whittle checks access and explains any block.
AI shopping readiness
What AI assistants need before they'll recommend a product: a photo, a price, a real description, answers to common questions, a category and a barcode. Whittle scores every product and lists the gaps.
Product FAQs
On Pro and up, Whittle writes questions and answers for product pages and marks them up so Google and AI assistants can quote them.
Your llms.txt
A plain summary of your store for AI assistants: main collections, products, pages and policies. You can add your own notes, turn prices off (for wholesale or login-only prices; sold-out status still shows), and include extra product details: type, brand, options and up to 6 product metafields. Major search engines haven't confirmed they use llms.txt, so treat it as a helpful extra rather than a ranking factor. See llms.txt for Shopify stores.
