Broken links, redirects and canonical tags

How Whittle finds broken links and 404s, adds 301 redirects one at a time or by CSV, and checks canonical tags without adding a second one.

In short: Whittle finds broken links inside your pages and missing pages visitors actually hit, and fixes each with a 301 redirect you can undo. It also manages your redirects in bulk and checks your live canonical tags.

Broken links

  • Links inside your pages: a checker for product descriptions, pages and posts, with one-click fixes.
  • Missing pages visitors hit: 404s logged as they happen through the theme embed, each fixable with a redirect.
  • Both lists download as CSV. The first two columns are Redirect from and Redirect to, so a filled-in file imports straight back.

Redirects

  • Add a 301 redirect by hand; full store links become paths automatically.
  • Import a CSV of up to 5,000 rows. Shopify's own export and any two-column sheet work, checked first with a list of bad rows.
  • Search, page through and remove redirects, and download them all in Shopify's format.
  • Every change undoes from Changes.

Canonical tags

Whittle opens your live pages and reports missing, duplicate, wrong-domain or misdirected canonical tags, each with the fix. It never adds a second canonical tag, because an app can't remove your theme's and two tags that disagree make Google ignore both. It also lists copied products, with Hide from Google or Redirect.
