Languages and translated search listings

Whittle works in 20 languages and, with the optional languages permission, scores and writes your Shopify search listings in every language your store sells in.

In short: Whittle itself works in 20 languages and follows your Shopify admin's language. If your store sells in more than one language, Whittle can also score your search listings in each one and write them the way people there search, not word for word.

The app's language

Whittle follows your Shopify admin's language unless you pick one in Settings: English, Czech, Danish, German, Spanish, Finnish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), Swedish, Thai, Turkish and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional). The help assistant answers in the language of your question.

Search listings in other languages

  1. Add languages in Shopify under Settings, Languages, if you haven't yet.
  2. Turn on other languages from the SEO audit. Shopify asks you to let Whittle read your languages and save translations. This permission is optional; Whittle works without it.
  3. See a score per language. Each language gets its own listing score: missing, out of date, copied in the main language, or too long for Google.
  4. Write or translate. Open any page to see its search title and meta description in each language. Edit by hand, or click Translate with AI and Whittle writes it from your main-language listing the way people search in that language. Check it, then save; saving goes live straight away and undoes from Changes.

A page needs a search title or meta description of its own in your main language before it can be translated. From the SEO audit you can also write the missing listings for a language in bulk. Each translated listing counts as one AI fix.
