Data, privacy and uninstalling
What Packtally reads from your Shopify store, what it keeps and never keeps, how documents and keys are protected, and what happens when you uninstall.
In short: Packtally is read only. From each order it keeps the dates, the ship-to state and country, the location, the total and what shipped. It never stores customer names, emails, phone numbers, street addresses, ZIP codes or payment details, and it never changes your products, orders or theme.
What Packtally reads
Packtally asks Shopify only for permission to read orders, products, locations and fulfillment orders. From those it keeps:
- Orders: the order number and ID, the dates it was placed and shipped, whether it was cancelled or a test, the sales channel, the ship-to state and country, the location it shipped from, the total, and the products and quantities shipped.
- Products: titles, SKUs, vendors, types, tags and weights.
- Locations: the name, state and country, and whether it's a fulfillment service.
What you add
Your company's legal name, revenue, employee count, brand names, packaging details, product category answers (including Prop 65 chemicals), registration dates, a CAA account number, invoice amounts, sales outside Shopify and box files. When someone agrees to the terms or signs a locked filing, Packtally keeps the name they type, the date and the words they agreed to, as the record of that agreement. Packtally doesn't ask for or store tax IDs.
How sensitive pieces are protected
- Supplier documents are encrypted before they're stored.
- Your ShipStation API key is stored encrypted and never shown again.
- Read-only links for your accountant and links for your suppliers are shown once; Packtally keeps only a fingerprint of each, they expire on the date you choose, and you can turn them off at any time. Supplier uploads wait for your review and are deleted if you dismiss them.
The one thing Packtally writes
If you turn on the Prop 65 warning block, Packtally saves your warning text to your store as app data so your theme can show it. Nothing else in your store is changed.
Shopper data requests
Packtally holds no personal details about shoppers. When Shopify passes on a shopper's request to see or erase their data, Packtally confirms nothing personal is held and removes the listed orders from its order counts.
Before you uninstall
- Download everything on File: one ZIP with every locked filing, exactly as signed, and your supplier documents.
- Uninstall. Packtally stops reading your store at once and emails the store owner an archive of your locked filings and the supplier documents that fit in an email. Keep that email: it's your record. If some documents were too large to attach, reinstall within 48 hours to download them.
- 48 hours later, when Shopify tells us to, everything held for your store is deleted.
Some states expect records to be kept for years, so keep your archive somewhere safe.
