2026 holiday shipping deadlines for Shopify stores
The 2026 Christmas ship-by dates for USPS, UPS and FedEx, and how to turn them into order cutoff dates for your Shopify store.
Short answer: For delivery before Christmas (Friday, December 25, 2026) within the lower 48 states, USPS recommends shipping by December 17 for Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail, December 18 for Priority Mail and December 19 for Priority Mail Express. FedEx Ground Economy's last day is December 15, and UPS 3 Day Select is December 21. Your store's order cutoff is the carrier date minus your handling time, minus a buffer day.
USPS: recommended send-by dates (lower 48 states)
| Service | Ship by, for delivery before Dec. 25 |
|---|---|
| USPS Ground Advantage | Thursday, December 17 |
| First-Class Mail | Thursday, December 17 |
| Priority Mail | Friday, December 18 |
| Priority Mail Express | Saturday, December 19 |
Ground Advantage to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and US territories can take 10 days or more, so ship those orders earlier. USPS dates are recommendations, not guarantees.

How to set your store's order cutoff
- Start with the carrier date for the service most of your orders use.
- Subtract your handling time: the business days between an order coming in and the package being scanned by the carrier. Peak season usually makes this longer, not shorter.
- Subtract one buffer day. Carrier networks are at their fullest in mid-December, and a missed pickup costs a day.
- Publish the result as your last day to order for Christmas delivery, by shipping method if you offer more than one.
Example: your orders ship USPS Ground Advantage (December 17) and you need two business days to pack. Your cutoff is December 15, and with a buffer day, December 14.
Where to show it
- Near the add to cart button on product pages, where the buying decision happens.
- In a site-wide banner from early December.
- In your order confirmation email, so customers know what to expect.
- After the cutoff, replace it with an honest note that new orders may not arrive by Christmas, and point to gift cards or local pickup if you offer them.
Dates as published by the carriers and reported in late October 2026. Carriers can change them; check before you ship.
