How the checker works

  • Packaging into each state is your orders into that state times your packaging weight per order.
  • A state is likely exempt if your revenue is under its line or your packaging is under about one ton there. Oregon uses one metric ton (2,205 lb); for the other states we use 2,000 lb, the lower reading, so the checker leans toward flagging you.
  • California's exemption depends on California sales under $1 million and has to be applied for.
  • "Close to the line" means 80 percent or more of a tonnage line.
